Tough Recycled Ball for Pet Playtime

Sunday, January 29th, 2012

A tough ball that withstands chewing is a great toy for your pet. These ones float as well as bounce making them fun for water-loving dogs and owners too. They are made from a tough non-toxic material, that is in itself reclaimed from the manufacture of other Planet Dog products, reducing their wastage and making it a good eco-friendly choice. These balls are very durable but they are recyclable at the end of their lifespan, so that is one less thing for the landfill. Their motto ‘reduce, reuse, rewoof’ just about sums it up! In the mean time you can have lots of great playtime with your dog.

Dog Sweaters in Stylish Reclaimed Cotton

Saturday, December 24th, 2011

These cute striped dog sweaters are made in the U.S. from re-claimed cotton fibers minimizing wastage from the clothing industry. They ingeniously re-use the existing colors of the reclaimed cotton so that no re-dying is necessary and then blend the fibers with acrylic to make a cozy and soft sweater for winter walks. The sweaters come in sizes to fit most dogs from 9” to 23 “ (collar to tail measurement) and are easy to slip on and machine washable. A great buy if you are looking for a stylish dog sweater that is eco-friendly too.

recyclebone

Planet Dog makes this recycled chewbone from materials left over from manufacturing other products. It is non-toxic, and you can recycle the scraps when your dog is done with it. Unfortunately, it is only rated for “average” aggressive chewers. If your dog is part piranha, like mine are, you may want to look for something sturdier.  Available from Eco Pet for $9.95.

Dog House in Recycled Materials

Friday, March 18th, 2011

It might look rather plastic, but this dog house is made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials, which is great if you are looking for a weatherproof dog house which isn’t going to make a big environmental impact.

It’s a good classic shape, but would be greatly improved in looks by a coat of paint or stain, as without it, it really does look like cheap plastic. Unlike wood though, it is rot-proof, insect proof and moisture resistant, so should last a good length of time.

Beware if your dog is a fierce chewer though, as it might not be fully chew-proof! It fits dogs up to 65 lb and has a flap door to keep your pet cozy. While of course most dogs who hang out at great green pet are more likely to sleep on a comfy bed in the master bedroom there are times when a dog needs to be in a dog house! This one might just fit the ticket.

Bowsers Eco+ Orbit Dog Bed

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

The following is a paid review:
dogbedeco
For the treehugging doggy in your life. This stylish bed (which comes in three colors: Sienna (shown), Whistler Gray and Rainforest) is perfect for all dogs who lead an active lifestyle. I know my dog, Zola, would especially love the bolster on this bed. It lets him sleep but keep one eye open just in case a human may go near the cookie jar!

The bottom of this bed is comprised of waterproof nylon which lets this bed work just as well indoors as outdoors. Perfect if you want to take your dog with you camping or boating. Your pup will stay nice and dry while the bottom of the bed keeps the moisture and cold away.

The bed is comfy and soft since it is filled with fleece fabric constructed from recycled plastic soda pop bottles. It is estimated by Bowsers that this particular bed helps eliminate up to 30 pop bottles from ending up in the landfill.

The best part is that the bolster and cushion cover can be unzipped and easily removed and thrown in the washing machine and dryer. This allows you to keep this bed fresh and clean for years to come. And we all know that purchasing a quality pet bed that can last many dog years will be the best eco-friendly decision a human can make. Zola says; “pass the cookies!”
