Non-Toxic Odor Eliminator For Pets

Wednesday, March 30th, 2011

The smell of wet dogs isn’t most people’s favorite perfume, but chemical air fresheners are often even worse. If you are looking for a natural way of getting rid of pet odors in the home, these Fresh Wave gel crystals do seem to work. They neutralize odors rather than covering them up with another strong scent.

All you do is open up the jar and leave it open in the room and it will gradually get rid of bad smells. The jar lasts for a few weeks of constant use before it needs replacing.

Eco conscious pet owners will like the fact that the gel is biodegradable and the packaging materials are recycled. Plus the gel is completely non-toxic. The only downside is that this product isn’t cheap, but probably cheaper than washing your pooches in sweet smelling shampoo every day!

Soft Hemp Cat Collars

Saturday, March 26th, 2011

This Silly Kitty range of natural hemp cat collars is great for pets with sensitive skin or who just get irritated by other collars. The hemp is strong but very soft and wears well. The style is the safety breakaway collar design and is easy to put on, staying on fairly well, though determined kitties can get them off!

The best thing about these hemp collars is that cats find them comfortable and don’t have problems with them rubbing their skin or wanting to scratch the whole time. Plus they come in a great range of colors. Oh and of course hemp is a really eco-friendly choice with a low environmental impact, so these collars are good for your pet and good for the planet!

Natural Pill Pockets For Cats

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

Any cat owner will identify with the well-worn story about giving a cat a pill and ending up in ER. It’s never easy to fool a cat into taking a pill, but these tasty pill pockets seem to work with more than half the cat population. They are soft and taste of a delicious treat.

All you do is hide the pill in the hole and pinch together the pocket. The cat thinks she’s getting a treat and swallows without noticing the pill, unless she is very smart and picky!

The pill pockets also contain probiotics and vitamins C and E so are helping boost the immune system along with the pill. The 1.6oz bag contains 45 pills and comes in either chicken or salmon flavor.

Dog House in Recycled Materials

Friday, March 18th, 2011

It might look rather plastic, but this dog house is made from 100% post-consumer recycled materials, which is great if you are looking for a weatherproof dog house which isn’t going to make a big environmental impact.

It’s a good classic shape, but would be greatly improved in looks by a coat of paint or stain, as without it, it really does look like cheap plastic. Unlike wood though, it is rot-proof, insect proof and moisture resistant, so should last a good length of time.

Beware if your dog is a fierce chewer though, as it might not be fully chew-proof! It fits dogs up to 65 lb and has a flap door to keep your pet cozy. While of course most dogs who hang out at great green pet are more likely to sleep on a comfy bed in the master bedroom there are times when a dog needs to be in a dog house! This one might just fit the ticket.

Tug Toy For Smaller Dogs

Monday, March 7th, 2011

The smallest dogs are the fiercest and now at last there is a tug toy made just for them, so they can have a fun game of tug with their owners.

Made of Planet Dog’s trademark Orbee-Tuff material it is recyclable, durable, minty and non-toxic. The tug toy is pretty cute too in blue/orange or pink/green, so would make a great gift for the owner of a smaller dog such as a terrier or Jack Russell. It’s not designed as a chewing toy, but the minty smell will probably make your dog want to carry it around all day, so you’ll just have to have a tug of war to get him to give it up!

Dog Bed in Eco-Friendly Materials

Thursday, March 3rd, 2011

A comfy, cozy dog bed is a must for your pet, unless you are happy for him to take over the couch! This bolster bed is wonderfully soft but still supportive with plenty of room to stretch out on.

The bed is hand made in Montana from recycled materials and has a cover in soft fleece fabric that is easy to wash. It is available in four colors, copper, thyme green, natural wheat, and sea blue and comes in various sizes from the enormous extra large (32” x 26”) to a petite small (12” by 9”).

Some owners find that these beds aren’t as thick and fully stuffed as some other dog beds but none of the dogs mentioned had any problem with that! So if you want more room to stretch out on the couch then get one of these for your dog. Not cheap but they are an earth friendly option.
